Class Descriptions
Ballet
A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses. Ballet develops a strong technical foundation for many other styles of dance. |
Jazz
Any of various dances characterized by the use of improvisation by rhythms and techniques of jazz music. Jazz is an upbeat and energetic style of dance derived from the roots of ballet technique. |
Tap
A dance in which the rhythm is sounded out by the clicking taps on the heals and toes of a dancer's shoes. |
Hip Hop
Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily perform ed to hip hop music. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking and popping. |
Lyrical
A style with a primary basis in ballet, combining technical elements of ballet with freedom and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary & modern. |
Contemporary
A genre of dance that employes compositional philosophy, rather than choreography, to guide unchoreographed movement. |
Creative Movement
Our creative movement classes are for dancers 3 to 5 years of age. It is a once a week 45 minute class which teaches your dancer to listen to instruction, take turns in the classroom, learn choreography and play fun movement classes to increase body awareness and cognitive thinking. |
Acrobatics
Dancers will learn core acrobatic techniques including, but not limited to, forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round-offs & front and back walkovers. |
Musical Theater
A class designed for students interested in building skills and self-confidence for musical theater productions. Students will explore several styles of dance, including jazz and tap, as well as learn combinations and dances from all different types of musicals. |
